Palace late show hits Iron

Published: 06 Feb 2010 - 18:30:19

Crystal Palace continued to make light of their off-field problems by scoring a stoppage-time winner to beat 10-man Scunthorpe 2-1 in the Coca-Cola Championship.Palace, who entered administration and had 10 points deducted last week, pinched the points when Neil Danns fired home from the edge of the area in the second minute of added time.Darren Ambrose had put Palace ahead just after the hour when he drilled home following a well-worked corner and Scunthorpe's plight was made worse soon after when Marcus Williams was sent off.Up to that point, the hosts had dominated proceedings and wasted a succession of first-half chances, with Cliff Byrne and Grant McCann guilty of wasting the best chances.Scunthorpe got the goal their play had deserved when David Mirfin headed home a corner in the 84th minute, only for Danns to have the last say.The result ends Scunthorpe's four-game unbeaten run, while Palace's win sees them looking up in the table after moving further clear of the relegation zone.Scunthorpe were quick into the ascendancy and created several chances in the opening 10 minutes but Palace's late show handed them victory.
