Laws unhappy with referee
Published : 02 Jan 2013 12:01:14
Scunthorpe manager Brian Laws was less than impressed with referee Richard Clark as his side threw away a two goal lead.
Laws felt Clark, in his first season as a Football League referee, got the big decisions wrong as goals from Niall Canavan and Mark Duffy were cancelled out by the visitors.
Cliff Byrne scored on his return to Glanford Park just before half time to half the deficit but Laws felt there was a clear foul on Canavan in the build up.
"The lad was all over Niall, he was actually leaning on him. Referees, in most circumstances, would actually give a foul for that", he said.
The United manager was also disappointed with the decision to give a penalty against his side during the second half, claiming no-one had been near Smith when he fell to the ground.
The lad's (Smith) taken a run up and is jumping in the air as though he'd been pushed, but nobody had pushed him.
"He was nowhere near anybody and that's disappointing - there wasn't anything that could be defined as a penalty situation".
He also felt the decision to dismiss Oldham midfielder James Wesolowski for a tussle with Damien Mozika was harsh.
"I like tackles and things like that and they seem to be disappearing out of the game.
"I think the referee will have to have a look at this performance and say he probably hasn't had a good game."
