Laws backs Taylor to win fitness battle

Scunthorpe United boss Brian Laws is confident that experienced striker Rob Taylor will be fit for this weekend's crunch clash with Hartlepool United.

The much-travelled forward appeared to pick up a hamstring injury during Saturday's draw at Swansea, but Laws has not given up hope on the 31-year-old's fitness battle.

"Rob himself was very down after the game at Swansea," the Iron boss told the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph.

"But a rest has done him good and there has been an improvement.

"It seems as though he has nicked a nerve in his back and it has gone down to the hamstring.

"Rob himself is much happier than he was and at the moment we are hoping the signs are encouraging.

"But we'll just have to wait to see whether the injury is going to clear itself or whether it is going to need some treatment."
