Scunthorpe United have completed the permanent signing of former loan defender Cliff Byrne on a free transfer from Sunderland.
The 21-year-old Irishman spent three months with the Iron last season and boss Brian Laws was eager to bring him back to the club on a longer-term basis.
Byrne played 16 games for Scunthorpe last season, having failed to break into the first-team picture with the Black Cats.
Meanwhile, Laws has also enquired about Huddersfield Town's left-back Kevin Sharp, as he seeks a replacement for Andy Dawson, who has moved on to Hull City.
Sharp is out of contract with the Terriers.
