Iron vow to keep strike pair

    13 Dec 2006 - 12:10:22

Scunthorpe United chairman Steve Wharton insists the League One high-flyers are determined to keep star strikers Billy Sharp and Andy Keogh at Glanford Park.

The prolific Iron strikeforce has netted a combined 22 goals this season, but Wharton told the club's annual general meeting that despite debts they were not looking to cash in on the highly-rated pair.

He said: "I can't believe for one moment that we will part with Billy Sharp.

"It would be nice not to be in debt but it would be much worse not to have Billy and Andy Keogh.

"There will come a time when it is unfair to stop their progress but not in the middle of a season.

"We would really hate to see the team broken up before it has got promoted.

"There is a terrific spirit within the squad and I can't believe these two players would not want to stay and give their all to get promotion for this club this season."
