Iron suffer Murphy misery

Scunthorpe United have suffered a pre-season blow after it was confirmed that first-choice goalkeeper Joe Murphy could be out of action for up to six weeks with a groin injury.

The 26-year-old suffered the problem in training and was replaced in goal for Saturday's pre-season friendly against Sheffield United by youth team player Josh Lillis.

Iron boss Nigel Adkins has backed Lillis to shine in the first team, saying: "Josh will play now and I'm delighted with that.

"We'll just have to make sure that we've got sufficient cover depending on how long Joe will be out for. We'll assess that during the course of the week."
