Scunthorpe United boss Nigel Adkins hailed the efforts of his players after they sealed a first win in six league games by seeing off Charlton Athletic 1-0 at Glanford Park.
Martin Paterson's goal proved to be decisive and boosted the Iron's bid to avoid relegation from the Championship.
Adkins said afterwards: "We've worked hard and I've always said that you can't fault the players for their efforts.
"We've been unfortunate along the way, been on the wrong end of a couple of refereeing decisions, but we haven't folded and showed some great commitment.
"We're a small club in a massive division and we're having a right good go. I have total belief in all the players and I am very proud of what they have achieved.
"This is a results driven business, but we want to play football. Maybe this wasn't one of our best footballing performances, but we got the result."
