Scunthorpe United have said that leading scorer Martin Paterson is not for sale, following interest in the striker from Burnley.
The 21-year-old netted 14 goals for the Iron last season, as the Glanford Park club suffered relegation to League One, but Scunthorpe do not want to lose the Northern Ireland international.
Acting chairman Rex Garton told the Evening Telegraph: "We are trying to build a squad for next season, not dismantle one.
"Yes, our chairman Steve Wharton has received a telephone call from a representative at Burnley, but we have made it clear that we do not want to sell Martin Paterson.
"To the best of my knowledge we have received no written offer from Burnley for him.
"We want to keep our best players because we want to have a successful season in League One."
