Iron set to contest Williams dismissal

Published: 07 Feb 2010 - 11:29:27

Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins admitted his side will be considering an appeal over Marcus Williams' red card following the 2-1 defeat by Crystal Palace.Darren Ambrose put the Eagles in front after 63 minutes before Williams was given his marching orders for hauling down Kieran Djilali. The Iron hit back through David Mirfin, only for Neil Danns to hit a winner for Palace late on."It was disappointing to have a player sent off and we shall be looking to see if we can appeal," said Adkins. "This is only the third game in 11 that we have been beaten and each time it has come after we have suffered from red cards."Having said that, we had chances early in the game that we should have taken. It should have been beyond reach for Palace by half-time."I warned my players they had to be aware of the threats from Palace at set-pieces and it was disappointing their first goal came from a corner."Overall, I was pleased with our performance but it is a result like this that just reminds us how difficult it is to get points at Championship level."
