Scunthorpe United manager Nigel Adkins is on the verge of snapping up a winger from a League One side on loan as he bids to lift his side out of the relegation zone.

Rumours suggest the unnamed player could be Doncaster's Martin Woods who turned down the chance to join The Iron last year.

"Nothing's yet signed, but it's a player who I tried to bring in last summer," Adkins told the Evening Telegraph.

Adkins is also interested in bringing Chelsea youngster Jimmy Smith to Glanford Park.
