Iron discount Williams appeal

Scunthorpe United have decided not to appeal against the red card Marcus Williams was handed during Saturday's 2-1 home defeat against Crystal Palace.

The 24-year-old defender was shown sent off for his challenge on Palace substitute Kieron Djilali.

Iron boss Nigel Adkins did not think the offence warranted a straight red card but will not appeal against the decision, saying: "The referee was a long way away and we feel the decision was very harsh.

"The video evidence we have is very difficult, but there is a good shout that Marcus has made contact with the ball.

"We also have Rob Jones and David Mirfin very close to the incident, so was it really denying a goalscoring opportunity?"

Meanwhile, Andrew Wright has signed a new contract that will keep him at Glanford Park until the end of the 2011-12 season.
