Hooligans 'will not spoil' cup clash

Humberside Police have warned football hooligans they will be dealt with robustly if they cause trouble on Saturday.

The police are working closely with both clubs and have issued a statement to re-assure fans they will be doing all they can to avoid trouble off the pitch.

Superintendent Dave Hall, who is in charge of the operation said: "I can assure people that any individuals who are intent on causing trouble on the day will be dealt with in a robust manner.

"They will not spoil the day for the majority who are coming to enjoy the match."

Both sets of fans will be searched on entry to Blundell Park in an attempt to stop illegal objects being taken into the ground.

Fans with flares, smoke bombs or other banned objects have been urged to hand them to the police before entering the stadium and "no further questions will be asked".

Entering Blundell Park with flares or smoke bombs will almost certainly lead to a three year football banning order and could lead to as much as three months in prison.
