Hayes targets swift return

Scunthorpe United striker Paul Hayes is determined to make a quicker than expected return from a fractured cheekbone.

The 25-year-old suffered the injury in the first half of last weekend's 4-0 FA Cup second round win over Alfreton and was expected to be sidelined until late January.

"Paul has now had his cheekbone operation. I spoke to him on Wednesday night and he's in great spirits," manager Nigel Adkins told the club's official website.

"He's talking about trying to get back in a couple of weeks time and wearing a mask but, in all realism, I think it's a four-to-six week period.

"We'll see how that one goes."
