Goodwin pens Iron deal

Scunthorpe United have handed midfielder Jim Goodwin a new two-year contract.

Goodwin, 26, signed for the Iron in 2005 and overcame an injury-plagued first season at Glanford Park to play an integral part in the club's promotion to the Championship last term.

The Republic of Ireland international made 36 appearances last season.

The former Celtic midfielder signed for Scunthorpe on a free transfer from Stockport County and will now remain with the Iron until summer 2009.

Meanwhile, Billy Sharp has moved closer to an exit after holding talks with Norwich City over a £2million transfer to Carrow Road.
