Goodwin close to Iron comeback

Scunthorpe United physio Nigel Adkins is confident midfielder Jim Goodwin will soon be back in action as he continues to recover from a nasty head injury picked up in the opening day 2-1 defeat at Bristol City.

The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international is back in training and Adkins is pleased to confirm a return to the first-team fold is not too far away.

He told the club's official website: "Jim Goodwin has been on the training ground buzzing around with an energetic enthusiasm that rubs off on everyone else.

"Trying to replicate everything he does in a game except heading and tackling has been the aim of the training sessions, so that when he can resume full contact training it shouldn't take long to return to competitive action."
