Facial injury sidelines Hayes

Scunthorpe United striker Paul Hayes will be sidelined until January after being told he needs surgery on the fractured cheekbone he suffered during the FA Cup second round victory against Alfreton Town.

The 26-year-old picked up the injury in the opening stages of The Iron's 4-0 win and looks set to miss the club's next five matches.

"An injury like that normally means a minimum of four weeks out of action," confirmed United boss Nigel Adkins.

"Paul was allowed home from hospital on Saturday night but will go back in for his operation on Monday."
