Byrne surgery blow for Iron

Scunthorpe United defender Cliff Byrne could be ruled out for several weeks after undergoing surgery on a fractured cheekbone. Byrne, 24, suffered the injury in the 1-0 home win against Rotherham two weeks ago after colliding with Iron goalkeeper Joe Murphy. "At the moment I am not sure how serious the surgery has been, or how long Cliff will be out," admitted United manager Nigel Adkins. The former Sunderland trainee has made 26 appearances for the League One leaders this term.
