Byrne signs for Oldham

Cliff Byrne, released by Scunthorpe this summer, has signed for League One side Oldham Athletic.

Byrne, 30, spent nine seasons as an Iron player, and will appear in claret and blue one last time on Sunday at a benefit match in his honour.

He confirmed his move to The Latics via Twitter on Thursday evening, but did not say how long his contract was.

He had been training with Paul Dickov's side, and also made two appearances for their Lancashire rivals Preston on trial.
