Byrne on trial at Preston

Cliff Byrne played 45 minutes for Preston North End on Saturday, as the former Scunthorpe captain looks to earn a contract at the League One club.

Byrne was released by the Iron this summer and had been linked with Oldham Atheltic.He played the first-half of Preston's 2-0 win over Southport, in a team that included several other trialists - including the former Swansea striker Lee Trundle.
