Adkins talks up Iron squad

Scunthorpe United manager Nigel Adkins felt that his side had got their rightful reward by snatching a play-off place in the dying minutes of the season.

The Iron looked set to miss out as they trailed rivals Tranmere Rovers 1-0 with a matter of minutes to play at Glanford Park, only for Cliff Byrne to crash home a header that broke the visitors' hearts.

Adkins said after the drama: "It was about getting the result and getting through to the next stage.

"All credit to the players. That's all we should talk about, how this group of players, who work very, very hard, have got a result to get this football club into a play-off position.

"Tranmere were better than us on the day, in the first half. Second half we had a lot more chances.

"Over 46 games we deserve to be in the top six, because I think we've been magnificent."
