Adkins reveals cash boost

Scunthorpe United manager Nigel Adkins is looking forward to having cash to spend in the January transfer window, following his side's exit from the Carling Cup.

The Iron were beaten 5-1 at big-money Manchester City in the last 16 of the competition, with Adkins' spending power boosted by a possible £200,000.

He told the Evening Telegraph: "What we make from the game is money that is not included in the budget and the chairman has told me it will be available to spend.

"The quality was there for all to see from Manchester City and the scoreline was probably what people would have been expecting to see.

"We had a big following and I wanted to get another goal, so we were playing a front four and that was bound to leave us exposed."
