Adkins ready for Hooper fight

Scunthorpe United boss Nigel Adkins is expecting to have to fend off interest in star striker Gary Hooper in the summer.

The 22-year-old, who has scored 47 goals in 92 games for the Iron, is rumoured to be attracting interest from the top-flight and Adkins is preparing for a fight to keep hold of the highly-rated frontman.

He told Sky Sports News: "Everyone was linked with him in January and we managed to keep him at the football club.

"He is still with us now and he has got another year left on his contract. He has a smile on his face, he works hard as part of the group and everything is great.

"You wouldn't know he had been linked and there had been speculation, as there will be with a lot of players at football clubs around the country, especially the goalscorers.

"We try and give them a platform to learn and to show their skills and we are going to do everything we can to keep our players at our football club.

"The financial situation happens everywhere and we try and do the best for our football club, likewise we try and do the best for the players as well."
