Adkins plays down promotion

Scunthorpe United boss Nigel Adkins claims his side isn't getting carried away by the prospect of promotion despite extending their lead at the top of the table to nine points on Tuesday evening.

The Iron extended their unbeaten run to 13 games with a 3-1 defeat of Crewe, but Adkins has warned his side against complacency.

"We're very pleased as we've kept our run going," he said. "That's 13 games undefeated and we've won six games on the spin.

"We've had a chat in the dressing room and we're not going to get carried away with it, although it's great for our supporters to believe and dream of being in the Championship next season.

"Billy Sharp got two more goals and could have had a hat-trick but for a good save from their keeper.

"Billy's on fire. He's working so hard for it, it's untrue. He has to believe he's capable of 30 goals this season."
