Adkins launches Byrne appeal

Scunthorpe United have decided to launch an appeal against Cliff Byrne's red card in Tuesday's defeat at West Bromwich Albion. The defender was shown a straight red card for his 88th-minute challenge on Baggies substitute Andwele Slory as The Iron slumped to a 2-0 defeat at The Hawthorns. Meanwhile, Nigel Adkins says there is no truth in reports linking him with a loan move for West Ham United striker Freddie Sears. When asked whether he was interested in bringing Sears to Glanford Park, Adkins said: "Categorically, no. I haven't got a clue where that one's come from. "His agent must be working over-time! It's 100 per cent no. I'm not looking at Freddie Sears. I'm very happy with the squad of players I've assembled. "Eighty per cent of the stuff you read in newspapers is agent-led."
