Adkins brings in Togwell

Scunthorpe United have signed Sam Togwell on a free transfer from Barnsley, with the midfielder penning a two-year contract at Glanford Park.

The 23-year-old had spent two seasons with the Tykes, having previously made his name with Port Vale.

Iron boss Nigel Adkins told the club's official website: "He's played a lot of games in the Championship. He's an energetic player and he will get around the field of play.

"He is the sort of player who can compliment the other players that we've got. We need his energy in there, we want to play high-tempo football.

"In Grant McCann and Ian Morris we've got two players who bring quality when they've got the football and we have Matt Sparrow too.

"It's a nice mix, a good blend of players who will compliment each other for the different situations that arise."
