Adkins backs Paterson

Scunthorpe United boss Nigel Adkins is confident that striker Martin Paterson will be fit for the weekend clash with Barnsley.

The 20-year-old has missed out on international action with the Northern Ireland Under-21 side due to a hamstring problem, but Adkins is confident that Paterson will be raring to go at Oakwell.

He told the Evening Telegraph: "The good thing is that Martin has been over there and met up with the Irish squad.

"Their physio people have assessed him and it was decided not to risk him in the two European Championship games they have this week.

"He has come back to us to carry on his rehab and he was able to do some light training yesterday.

"At this moment in time there is no suggestion that he will not be available for our game at Barnsley."

Paterson has scored four goals in his five outings for the Iron since his summer arrival from Stoke City.
