Adkins: Murphy not an issue

Scunthorpe United manager Nigel Adkins has rejected rumours of a bust-up with goalkeeper Joe Murphy.

Murphy was left out of the squad for the 1-1 draw with Cardiff City last weekend, but Adkins says that there was nothing sinister in the Irishman missing out.

He told the Evening Telegraph: "Some people just want to put two and two together. Where all this speculation has come from, I do not know. It is just nonsense.

"Joe is still 100 per cent committed to this football club and what we are trying to achieve.

"Of course he was disappointed to be left out, because he is a passionate guy and, the same as every other player, he wants to play in every game.

"But Josh Lillis had done well in the two games before and Joe understood the decision I made to leave him in the side."
