Scunthorpe chairman Steve Wharton hopes to appoint a successor to Ian Baraclough within "a matter of weeks". The Iron are searching for a new boss after Baraclough was axed following Tuesday`s 3-0 home defeat at the hands of relegation rivals Preston. Brian Laws has been touted for a return to the Glanford Park hot-seat following his previous success in the job but head of youth Tony Daws has been named caretaker manager and will take charge for Saturday's match against Ipswich. Wharton told Press Association Sport: "We are reviewing the situation and hope to make an appointment within a matter of weeks." Asked whether his side could avoid the drop, Wharton added: "We will certainly be doing everything we can to achieve that aim."
