Thompson ready to relieve pressure

Scunthorpe's Garry Thompson can't wait to return to first-team action in order to relieve some pressure from his attacking colleagues. The versatile striker has been absent from most of the Irons' games this season with hernia and groin problems but has gradually been getting back to fitness making substitute appearances in the last four games. After playing 22 minutes in the defeat to Leeds at the weekend, Thompson is eager to feature from the start and try to fill the goalscoring void left by Gary Hooper. "Everybody keeps saying it, but at this level, when you get chances, you need to score" he told This is Scunthorpe. "It's becoming a burden on the team this year and it hasn't helped that with injuries to myself and other players. "I like that pressure and I like the fact that pressure is going to be on me when I play up front. This is what being a goalscorer is all about. You can take the plaudits, but you have to be prepared to take the knocks as well."
