Scunthorpe boss Alan Knill will offer goalkeeper Sam Slocombe a new contract and believes the youngster's hunger and desire bodes well for next season. Scunthorpe-born Slocombe, 22, could push hard for regular first-team action with Joe Murphy expected to leave Glanford Park in the wake of the club's relegation. He came off the bench in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Portsmouth and Knill says he is a confirmed admirer of the rookie stopper. "It was good for Sam to get on," said Knill. "He's somebody who we like and we'll be offering him a new contract. "He is really enthusiastic, athletic and has a desire to be better. He has a hunger in him and we're going to give that a chance."
