Goalkeeper Sam Slocombe has been named the Irish Iron Player of the Season, the first of the annual awards to be announced.

This has been a breakthrough campaign for Slocombe, 23, who was no.2 to Josh Lillis back in August. After providing backup to Lillis, then Manchester United loanee Sam Johnstone, the former Bottesford keeper went on to establish himself as first-choice and keep both of those out of the team.Slocombe has made 26 first-team appearances this season, and has been undisputed No.1 since the beginning of January.Irish Iron membership has been cut in half to just £5 for next season, and is not limited to supporters based in Ireland. All money raised through membership goes into the club through kit sponsorship. To signup go to http://irishironblogs.wordpress.com/
