Laws sweats over skipper Reid

Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws is hoping to have skipper Paul Reid back in contention for the visit of Walsall.

Central defender Reid has missed the last two games due to a back problem but could return to the Iron starting line-up in place of either Niall Canavan or David Mirfin.

Fellow defender Eddie Nolan was withdrawn from last week's defeat at Preston with a tight hamstring but is expected to be fit, and Laws must decide whether to recall him or stick with replacement Christian Ribeiro, who made his first appearance since January at Deepdale.

Striker Akpo Sodje (ankle) and midfielder Michael Collins (thigh) face late fitness tests.

Goalkeeper Erik Johansen, on loan from Manchester City, is likely to continue in the absence Sam Slocombe, who returned to full training this week following a long-term thigh injury.

Will Grigg is expected to return for Walsall's trip but the play-off hopefuls are sweating over the fitness of skipper Andy Butler.

Grigg, who has 19 goals to his name this term, has missed the last two matches with a hamstring injury sustained on international duty, but returned to training on Thursday and hopes to start at Glanford Park.

Centre-back Butler is only rated as 50/50 for the encounter due to a foot injury picked up in last weekend's 1-1 draw against Sheffield United.

Manager Dean Smith will be hoping his influential captain makes it, with fellow defender Andy Taylor already missing with the hamstring injury which forced him off just before the hour mark against the Blades.

Mal Benning and James Chambers, fit again after illness, are competing to replace Taylor at left-back.
