Duo in line for Iron returns

Scunthorpe manager Brian Laws could hand surprise recalls to David Mirfin and Josh Walker for the home league clash with Shrewsbury.

Central defender Mirfin has been sidelined since the beginning of November with knee ligament damage and midfielder Walker has missed the last five games due to an ankle injury.

Laws' squad has struggled with illness over the Christmas period, but winger Mark Duffy shook off a knee injury to last the full 90 minutes in the New Year's Day draw with Oldham and is expected to continue.

On-loan striker Nathan Ellington appeared for the final 20 minutes at Sheffield United on Boxing Day and against Oldham following a calf injury and is hoping to play a bigger role as the Iron chase their first win at Glanford Park since September 22.

Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner faces an anxious wait before naming his side.

Aaron Wildig was forced off after just 20 minutes of the 1-0 win at Coventry on New Year's Day, Town's first away success of the season as they put valuable breathing space between themselves and the League One drop zone.

Paul Parry missed out altogether at the Ricoh Arena due to illness, as did Mark Wright as he continues to recover from his knee injury.

All three midfielders will be assessed in the build-up to the Glanford Park clash, although Luke Summerfield (hernia) and striker Ryan Doble (hand) remain sidelined.

Defender Cameron Gayle also missed out against Coventry due to illness while his loan stay from West Brom expired after the encounter.

Turner will now be hoping to strike an extension in time while hoping Gayle recovers sufficiently to face the Iron.
