Iron duo could miss Crewe clash

Scunthorpe pair Gary McSheffrey and Jennison Myrie-Williams are doubtful for the home game against Crewe.

Striker McSheffrey broke his nose in last week's FA Cup clash with Worcester and also sustained a slight hamstring injury, while Myrie-Williams, his replacement in the 1-1 draw, was later withdrawn after tweaking his hamstring.

On-loan midfielders Liam O'Neil (West Brom) and Luke Williams (Middlesbrough), plus defender Richard Brindley (Rotherham) will all return to contention after being refused permission to play in the cup tie.

David Mirfin is closing in on his first appearance of the season following a long-term knee injury and fellow central defender Niall Canavan (shoulder) could return to the squad. Both appeared for the reserves in midweek.

Crewe captain Matt Tootle could return for the trip.

The full-back has not featured in the Alex's last seven games because of a viral infection but is now back in full training and played for the reserves in midweek.

The Railwaymen have not played for two weeks and have since acquired striker Lauri Dalla Valle, but he turned his ankle in training on Thursday and will not make his debut.

Meanwhile, young forward Ryan Colclough has gone under the knife again, this time for a pelvis problem.
