Canavan should be back for Iron

Scunthorpe defender Niall Canavan is expected to return to action in the home game against Crawley.

Canavan missed Tuesday's defeat at MK Dons after sustaining a head injury in Friday's home win against Peterborough despite taking part in the warm-up with a view to starting.

Iron boss Mark Robins is also hoping Neal Bishop can make a speedy return following a hernia operation. The midfielder has been sidelined since the middle of last month.

Another midfielder, West Brom loanee Liam O'Neil, remains doubtful due to the heel problem that has kept him out of the last two games as Scunthorpe chase a second win in 12 matches to ease their relegation fears.

Crawley's defensive problems have deepened after Richard Wood was recalled early from his loan spell by Rotherham.

Darren Ward (heel) and Dean Leacock (groin) are still out injured meaning Sonny Bradley is Town's only available central defender.

Midfielder Marvin Elliott or left-back Kelly Youga, who has yet to make his Crawley debut, could be asked to fill in at centre-half.

Anthony Wordsworth completes a two-match ban while Conor Henderson (ankle) and Josh Simpson (hamstring) are still missing through injury.
