Gary McSheffrey and Tom Hopper pushing for Scunthorpe recalls

Scunthorpe begin life without Mark Robins when they face Colchester at Glanford Park.

The former Manchester star was sacked this week following the club's poor recent run and Nick Daws and Andy Dawson will take joint caretaker charge of the side.

They expect to have a fully fit squad to choose from with Gary McSheffrey and Tom Hopper both pushing for recalls after recent injuries.

The Iron have failed to win any of their last three league games and last weekend's shock 5-0 hammering at Blackpool spelled the end of Robins' reign.

Colchester could hand a debut to veteran defender Nicky Shorey.

The 34-year-old former Reading, Aston Villa and England full-back has joined the out-of-form U's on a free transfer until the end of the season after training with the Essex club following a spell in India at Pune City.

Kevin Keen's men - who host Tottenham in the FA Cup fourth round - remain five points from safety following the midweek 1-1 draw at home with Fleetwood, and are now without a league win in 13 matches.

Defender George Elokobi looks set to be in contention again having returned to training following a hamstring strain. Midfielder Tom Lapslie is still nursing a muscle problem, while Sammie Szmodics (foot) is also not yet fit.
