Duane Holmes hoping to be fit to face Bristol City in EFL Cup

Scunthorpe midfielder Duane Holmes is hoping to shake off a sickness bug in time for the home EFL Cup tie against Bristol City.

Holmes was forced out of Saturday's 5-0 win against Gillingham at Glanford Park due to illness and his replacement Hakeeb Adelakun could return to the starting line-up if he fails to make it.

Midfielder Sam Mantom (hamstring) and forward Luke Williams (foot) missed out at the weekend and remain doubtful.

Striker Paddy Madden and midfielder Jamie Ness are both still sidelined due to respective calf injuries.

Bristol City will be without defender Adam Matthews and midfielder Joe Bryan.

Wales international Matthews suffered a hamstring in Saturday's 1-0 Sky Bet Championship defeat to Newcastle and is due to have a scan to discover the extent of the damage.

Bryan is again set to miss out with groin and hip problems, with Mark Little expected to deputise.

Derrick Williams, Callum O'Dowda and Aaron Wilbraham are all expected to come into the starting line-up with Robins boss Lee Johnson promising changes ahead of Saturday's league game against Aston Villa.
