Walsall heap more woe on struggling Scunthorpe

High-flying Walsall heaped more misery on struggling Scunthorpe as they stretched their unbeaten away run to five games with a 1-0 victory at Glanford Park.

Midfield man Rico Henry struck the only goal of the game in the 27th minute.

He raced into the box unchallenged to steer his shot past keeper Luke Daniels after Jordan Cook had opened up the home defence.

The visitors looked confident from the start and might already have been in front.

A far-post header from Clark forced a flying one-handed save from Daniels and from the corner that followed, Tom Bradshaw headed just inches wide.

Winger Joe Lolley showed some good flashes for Scunthorpe on his home debut on loan from Huddersfield.

But the home side struggled as an attacking threat until just before the interval when Dutchman Kevin van Veen went close to an equaliser with a shot from the edge of the box that forced a smart low save from goalkeeper Neil Etheridge.

Scunthorpe did start the second half better could get nothing on target to trouble the visitors, despite some good work by Gary McSheffrey.

It was Walsall who might have extended their lead in stoppage time, with Bradshaw and Henry both missing good chances.
