Scunthorpe and Gillingham play out one-side goalless draw

Gillingham were lucky to escape with a point in a totally one-sided 0-0 draw at Scunthorpe.

The home side dominated from start to finish - but just could not find their finishing touch.

The main culprit was leading marksman Paddy Madden who missed a bagful of opportunities to add to his 18-goal tally.

He waged a one-man battle all afternoon against the Gillingham defence as the visitors struggled to cope with his pace and movement.

Twice in the first half he was denied at full stretch by keeper Stuart Nelson. He also crashed a close-range header against the bar and had a shot cleared off the line.

Madden was still the man in the second half, but his luck did not change, twice more being denied by the legs of keeper Nelson as he burst clear into the box.

Full-back Conor Townsend and substitute Kyle Wootton were also denied by Nelson as Gillingham clung on to a point to halt a run of three successive defeats.

They did it without ever producing a moment of threat themselves as an attacking force.
