Scunny downed by Dorrans double
Scotland star Dorrans scored a goal - one from open play and one from the penalty spot - in each half either side of Rob Jones' first goal for the Iron in an eventful Championship clash at Glanford Park.[LNB]Classy midfielder Dorrans should have had a hat-trick but missed a second spot-kick as Scunthorpe lost their discipline in the second half, with Andrew Wright and Grant McCann sent off.[LNB]Gianni Zuiverloon sealed the points with a third goal five minutes from time to ensure second-placed Albion maintained their two-point lead over Nottingham Forest, who beat Coventry 2-0 to stay on their coat-tails.[LNB]Albion almost caught Scunthorpe cold in the first minute when winger Jerome Thomas cut into the penalty area and had a shot saved by goalkeeper Joe Murphy.[LNB]The Baggies looked dangerous going forward and Murphy flapped at Thomas' cross but Chris Brunt failed to capitalise as his right-footed strike hit the side-netting.[LNB]It seemed to be only a matter of time before Albion took the lead and the goal came after 18 minutes.[LNB]Full-back Marek Cech crossed from the left and Murphy could only palm the ball into the path of midfielder Dorrans, who showed excellent technique to volley home his sixth goal of the season from 12 yards out.[LNB]Brunt almost doubled the visitors' advantage eight minutes before the break when he skipped past two challenges and unleashed a vicious left-footed strike that whistled past the post from 30 yards out.[LNB]Albion were good value for their lead at half-time, but a resurgent Scunthorpe drew level in the first minute of the second half.[LNB]Dean Kiely palmed away a shot from Michael O'Connor and Iron skipper Jones was on hand to open his account for the club from six yards out.[LNB]But the Iron were left with an uphill task when full-back Wright was shown a second yellow card for hauling back the lively Thomas on the hour-mark.[LNB]Albion had the ball in the back of the net from the resulting free-kick, but Luke Moore's header was disallowed for offside.[LNB]West Brom were in front after 66 minutes, however, when Jones bundled the impressive Dorrans over in the penalty area and after referee Jon Moss pointed to the spot, the Scot made no mistake from 12 yards out.[LNB]Roberto Di Matteo's side were awarded a second penalty 17 minutes from time when David Mirfin brought down Moore and to make matters worse for Scunthorpe, McCann was sent off for something he said to the referee.[LNB]However, Dorrans was unable to complete his hat-trick from the spot as Murphy denied him.[LNB]But Dutch full-back Zuiverloon ensured the points returned to the West Midlands, slotting home from 12 yards out five minutes from time after being played in by the influential Brunt.[LNB][LNB]
