Pre-season trip to Ireland

Scunthorpe United will play two friendlies in the Republic of Ireland as part of their preparations for the 2012-13 season.

They will spend four days based at the Carton House Hotel, and play games against Bray Wanderers and Wayside Celtic.The Iron will play at Bray Wanderers (July 17) and Wayside Celtic (July 19), as part of the tour organised and sponsored by former club director Simon Elliott.

"It has been a real pleasure to organise and sponsor Scunthorpe's pre-season tour, and it is great to be able to further support the club and its supporters," he said. "It is a very short flight or ferry crossing, so I hope to see as many Scunny fans as possible here in Dublin."Alan Knill, the Iron manager, said the training facilities at Carton House will provide a good basis for pre-seasonn.

"It is a great opportunity to benefit from great facilities and start our push for a successful campaign next season," he said. "We are grateful for Volkswagen Ireland for their support and we look forward to a positive experience in Ireland." The Iron now have three confirmed games for pre-season, with non-league Grimsby Town making the short trip down the A15 for a Lincolnshire Cup semi-final on Tuesday July 24.
