O'Connor targeting safety

The midfielder was not involved for Northern Ireland in their game against Israel this week and was instead lining up for the Iron in the Carling Cup against Chesterfield. The 21-year-old summer signing from Crewe is eager to add to his six caps for his country, but for the time being he is determined to establish himself at his new club. He told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "I want to play for my country, but the main objective for me this year is to keep Scunthorpe in the Championship. "If I get picked for Northern Ireland then that's great for me, but all I'm keeping focused on really is making sure we stay in this division."
