O'Connor: I jumped at Iron chance

The 21-year-old penned a three-year deal at Glanford Park on Monday after leaving Crewe for a fee that could rise up to £225,000. The midfielder has admitted it was McCann who tipped him off about Scunthorpe when the pair played for Northern Ireland against Italy earlier this summer. "Grant McCann was talking to me in Italy and told me the gaffer (Nigel Adkins) was interested in me so I jumped at the chance," he told Scunthorpe's official website. "I spoke to him for a good half hour about how the club was and what the lads were like and it was all good." O'Connor signed on for the Iron at the same time as fellow midfielder Josh Wright and he knows competition for places will be tight, adding: "I'm excited about it and I know it will bring the best out of me. It's better to have competition than none."
