No word from Norwich over Nigel
The 44-year-old is thought to be one of the favourites to replace Bryan Gunn, who was sacked on Friday, despite the Iron being in a division above the Canaries.
But Wharton is desperate to keep the former physio as he knows how big a loss he would be to the Glanford Park outfit.
"I have heard nothing from Norwich about Nigel and I hope it stays that way," he told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
"I would be bitterly disappointed to lose him. But I am pleased we have a manager who other people are interested in.
"That is because he is successful. If he wasn't then there wouldn't be an interest."
