No deadline day signing expected

Scunthorpe United's attempts to sign a strker on transfer deadline day were expected to come to nothing.

The departure of striker Bobby Grant, sold to the League Two side Rochdale, raised hopes that a forward would be brought in to replace him.

But that appears not to have happened, with tweets from local media reporters Mike White and Chris Sumpter suggesting no players would be signed before the 11am deadline.

"There will be no last minute business, despite our best efforts," Sumpter, sports editor at the Scunthorpe Telegraph, quoted an unnamed club source as saying.

No signing would be eligible to face Hartlepool on Saturday, as only players registered before midday could go into the matchday squad.
