On-loan Scunthorpe defender Jimmy McNulty has returned to parent club Brighton as he bids to recover from an ankle injury.
The 25-year-old has been restricted to just five Championships starts since arriving during the summer with a view to a permanent move.
"Jim is going back to Brighton to talk to them," said Iron boss Ian Baraclough.
"Obviously it's a worry for him. He can't afford to keep breaking down.
"He will know what course of action needs to be taken after he has talked to the medical people back at Brighton."
