Lillis makes Mariners loan switch

The 22-year-old, son of former Scunthorpe striker Mark Lillis, has been allowed to join the Mariners in order to gain some valuable first-team experience. Lillis, who is understudy to Iron number one Joe Murphy, spent a similar loan spell with Notts County last season. Meanwhile, Grimsby will not be appealing against the red card Barry Conlon received in the home defeat to Aldershot. Conlon, along with fellow striker Adam Proudlock, was sent off for an act of alleged violent conduct towards the end of the Mariners' 2-1 loss on Saturday. Newell was considering an attempt to try to get the dismissal rescinded in a bid to ease the club's striker shortage - Town are already without injured forwards Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, Adrian Forbes, Nathan Jarman, Nick Hegarty and Peter Bore. But he has decided against an appeal after video footage of the incident proved inconclusive and Conlon will serve a three-match suspension along with Proudlock.
