The defender sealed his move from Hibs on Thursday, when he penned a three-year deal with the Glanford Park side. The former Easter Road skipper enjoyed a successful three-year spell in the Scottish Premier League, guiding Hibs to their first silverware in 16 years in the 2007 Scottish League Cup. Now he believes he is good enough to test himself in the Championship after returning south of the border. "I hope so," said Jones. "I don't like looking too far ahead. "I'll just see how it goes with training and getting used to the players and the players getting used to me and we will move forward. "I have ambitions but I never tell anyone. I keep them close to my chest. My ambition at the moment is to play in the first game of the season." Jones signed for an undisclosed club record fee on Wednesday but insists he will be focusing on their curtain-raiser against Cardiff on August 8 rather than the price tag. "I'll try to put that at the back of my mind to be honest," he said. "I want to concentrate on playing and getting on with doing my job. "I'd like to thank the manager and the chairman for putting their faith in me and paying what they did pay. "I have to start now on the training field and get ready for the start of the new season. Jones admits new boss Nigel Adkins did not have to try too hard to sell the switch to Scunthorpe to him. He told the club's official website: "I've played against Scunthorpe twice in the past so I have past experience against them. "I know plenty about the club and I'm glad to be a part of it. Nigel didn't have to do much selling to me. "The club is in the Championship, where I want to be playing, and it also wants to move forward like I do. Hopefully we can move forward together."
