Iron legends return for Cliff

Fans favourites from the past decade will return to Glanford Park this Sunday as part of Cliff Byrne's benefit match.

Byrne was released by the club this summer, nine years after joining on a free transfer from Sunderland.Alex Calvo-Garcia, scorer of the winning goal in the 1999 Division Three play-off final, Peter Beagrie, Billy Sharp and Gary Hooper (check this) will all feature in the exhibition match which will pit the current Iron side against former players.Garry Thompson, Kevan Hurst and Michael O'Connor were due to play but have had to withdraw due to club commitments.The club's open day will also take place prior to the match, starting at 12noon.This includes a funfair, performances from local bands and community groups, and a first-team autograph signing session on the pitch.The Iron Trust, the club's new supporters trust, will be present to sign up members for the first time.The open day is free to fans, with entrance for the match £10 for adults, £5 for seniors and U16s and £2 for U20s
