Iron boss Nigel Adkins made his interest in the 21-year-old known earlier this week and has now had his offer accepted by the Alex. A Scunthorpe statement read: "United have had an undisclosed bid accepted by Crewe for their midfielder Michael O'Connor. "The club now have permission to talk to the Northern Ireland international." Alex boss Gudjon Thordarson told the club's official website: "We have agreed a deal with Scunthorpe and they have permission to speak to him. It is an undisclosed fee at this stage and some of the deal is based on appearances. "It is good business for the club because Michael has made it known that he wishes to go and I fully understand his decision when a Championship club has come in for him." O'Connor spent the end of last season on loan at Lincoln after falling out with Crewe boss Gudjon Thordarson, who was keen for the player to make a fresh start at Gresty Road. But it appears O'Connor will become Scunthorpe's first summer signing after they missed out on Walsall defender Anthony Gerrard, who has completed his move to Cardiff.
